Code for country-resolved dietary protein transition analysis in Europe
Abstract
This software archive contains the code used to quantify country-specificnutritionally surplus animal protein in European diets and to designnutritionally equivalent plant-based substitution scenarios. The workflow consists of two main components: (i) a dietary surplus diagnostictool that identifies reducible animal-source protein and guideline-driven plantadditions, and (ii) a functional substitution tool that constructs plant-basedprotein mixtures matched on digestible indispensable amino acids and energycontent using Pareto-efficient candidates. The code supports the scenario analysis (S0–S4) reported in the associatedmanuscript and enables reproduction of the dietary restructuring, substitutiondesign, and greenhouse-gas impact accounting. No full life cycle assessment isperformed; environmental impacts are calculated using externally sourcedemission intensities applied consistently across scenarios.
