The Answer That Is Prohibited from Being Sought: Indistinguishability, Limits, and the Crisis of Philosophical Explanation. On the Logical Impossibility of Searching for an Answer "Beyond Distinguishability"
Abstract
Abstract (english) This paper analyzes a persistent scheme for posing the fundamental question of the origin and grounding of the distinguishable order of reality, reproduced in philosophy and science from classical metaphysics to contemporary epistemological and formal approaches. It is argued that, in many traditions, the impossibility of an answer is not the result of analysis but follows from the ontologization of methodological, operational, and formal limitations. The study develops a semantic, ontological, and epistemological analysis of the concept of the indistinguishable. Difference is argued to be a minimal condition of existence, intelligibility, and explanation. Appeals to the “principally indistinguishable” are interpreted as surrogate explanations that block further inquiry. Special attention is given to apophatic strategies of thought, understood as historically intelligible ways of fixing the limits of articulation that become methodologically problematic when transformed into final answers. The paper distinguishes between operational, methodological, conventional, and dogmatic limits of knowledge and emphasizes the problem of the epistemic responsibility of philosophy. It concludes that a fundamental question remains admissible as long as its principled impossibility has not been demonstrated and highlights the need for methodological tools capable of explicitly distinguishing argued limits from unjustified prohibitions.
