Optimal Power Quality Mitigation of a Hybrid Microgrid System with Optimized Multilevel UPQC through 1PD-3DOF-PID Controller
Abstract
The work aims to develop an efficient power quality mitigation strategy for hybrid microgridsystems, which integrate various renewable sources, energy storage units, and loads, thus makingthem vulnerable to power quality issues like voltage sag, swell, and harmonics. To solve thisdilemma, the control strategy proposed uses a multi-level Unified Power Quality Conditioner(UPQC), which is effective in compensating power quality problems in hybrid microgrid systems, along with a new 1PD-3DOF-Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller and Golden EagleOptimization (GEO) algorithm. The proposed advanced optimization method is based on theforaging activity of golden eagles to optimize the parameters of this controller. Simulationoutcomes categorically verify the effectiveness of the designed controller in mitigation of powerquality problems with impressive efficiency, and thereby supporting the development ofsustainable and resilient power networks. The control strategy proposed is aimed at meeting thespecific challenges of hybrid microgrid systems, which demand a fine balance between variousenergy sources, storage units, and loads. The multi-level UPQC can counteract a broad spectrumof power quality problems such as voltage sag, swell, and harmonics, while the 1PD-3DOF-PIDcontroller offers a high level of flexibility and responsiveness to varying system conditions. GEOalgorithm is applied to optimize the controller parameters such that the system is running at optimalefficiency and effectiveness. Simulation results prove the effectiveness of the developed controlstrategy in enhancing power quality, efficiency.
