Abstract

The activity of the Task 5.2.2 concerns the currently available satellite data and products addressing relevant natural risks. The efforts focus on the identification of the gap between the current performance of the available Earth ObservationSystems and the desired outcomes, highlighting areas where improvement or enhancement is needed. This poster concernswildfire danger, a global natural hazard recently amplified in many regions by climate change. Monitoring of this risk has several phases: prevention through hazard indices (related to drought, weather, and fuel load), active detection andsurveillance of ongoing fires, and post-event mapping of burned areas to assess environmental impacts. Satellite data, particularly in the thermal and optical domains, have become indispensable in all these phases, providing a continuous andglobal look. In the following we present some new outcome in the field of active fire detection and monitoring.
