Abstract

The imperial tombs of the Qin and Han dynasties represent some of the most significant archaeological sites in world heritage, containing invaluable information about ancient Chinese civilization. The tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, discovered in 1974, and the Han tombs remain largely unexcavated due to the Chinese conservationist philosophy of anticipatory preservation, which prioritizes waiting until adequate technology is available rather than risking the irreversible destruction of these cultural treasures. This article examines contemporary technological proposals based on existing systems that could facilitate the safe excavation of these sites, including environmental containment systems, advanced dehumidification technologies, archaeological robotics, and in situ conservation methods. Through the integration of these technologies, a multidisciplinary approach is proposed that balances scientific research with long-term heritage preservation.
