Fogle's High Law
Abstract
Abstract This document formalizes Fogle’s High Law, a universal structural principle governing how systems generate usable surplus through receptivity rather than emission. The law applies to any system that admits measurable intake and dissipation. It holds across physical, in- formational, biological, and phenomenological domains, and admits a concrete instantiation in thermoelectric systems. Central to the law is the concept of vivid surplus η, defined as the difference between constructive receptivity and emissive dissipation, and governed by an affordance organ τ that simultaneously increases intake and suppresses loss. The quantity η= R−E serves as the universal invariant of the Affordance Law, preserving its structural meaning across all domains. For anything to happen, for work (W) or action (S) to exist, for motion to occur, there must first be vivid surplus — η > 0 — created by listening better than leaking, relative to its source of listenable material. Whether it’s mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, information theory, or even social dynamics — they all presume a system with nonzero η, a functional τ, and some intact capacity for intake without catastrophic leak- age. The High Law isn’t competing with them, it contains the context in which they can exist at all.
