Abstract

Task 5.1 of WP5 of the PurPest project involves reviewing available literature on the existing and potentialeconomic costs associated with the damages caused by, and management of, the five focus pests of thePurPest project. The outputs of this task also support related tasks within WP5 concerned with forecastingeconomic costs and benefits of the plant pest prevention technology being developed under this project.Categories to target for reviews of each pest, that are pertinent to their economic consequences, wereidentified. Targeted searches were then conducted using the Google Scholar and Web of Sciencedatabases. Generally, we obtained sufficient information for each of the aforementioned categories foreach pest, though knowledge gaps were identified in some areas, particularly surrounding costsassociated with exclusionary and preventative measures. Moving forward, we plan to expand theseoutputs into a review article on the economic consequences of invasive plant pests, using the five focuspests of the PurPest project as case studies.
