The BESS Value Chain in Europe - Technology Dependencies and Local Value Creation
Abstract
Europe’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market is expanding rapidly, but much of its value chain depends on global suppliers for cells, electronics, and control systems. This session analyzes the European BESS ecosystem through a value-chain lens, identifying where domestic players generate value, for example in system design, integration, EMS software, and cybersecurity, and where strategic dependencies remain. We will discuss technology sovereignty, local manufacturing dynamics, and strategic levers needed to strengthen resilience in Europe’s critical energy storage infrastructure.
