The Variable Elastic Space (VES) Model
Abstract
A Mechanical Re-interpretation of Cosmic DynamicsThis paper introduces the Variable Elastic Space (VES) model, an alternative cosmological approach that eliminates the need for Dark Matter and Dark Energy by redefining space as a physical medium with variable elasticity. The core of the model is the assumption that matter acts as a structural "anchor" that locally stiffens spacetime (saturation state), while space relaxes in matter-poor regions—such as cosmic voids and galactic outskirts—exhibiting higher geometric compliance.By introducing the smoothing factor λ and time-delayed spatial remanence τ, the VES model provides a consistent mechanical explanation for phenomena such as: • Flat rotation curves of galaxies. • The Bullet Cluster observations. • The accelerated expansion of the universe. The VES model serves as a physical extension of General Relativity, complementing Einstein’s geometry with the mechanical properties of an elastic continuum to create a non-contradictory, materially reduced worldview. © 2026 Markus Nicke
