Abstract
Abstract The use of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles is considered a promising alternative for controlling phytopathogenic fungi in agriculture. To date, numerous metal and metal oxide nanoparticles have been synthesized and used as potential antifungal agents. Therefore, this review presents a critical and detailed analysis of the use of these nanoparticles to control phytopathogenic fungi affecting various economically important crops worldwide. For pure metal nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles have been the most researched due to their potent antifungal activity, followed by copper nanoparticles. Among metal oxide nanoparticles, zinc oxide nanoparticles are the most prevalent, followed by copper oxide nanoparticles. To date, different synthesis methods have been used to produce these nanoparticles with varying shapes and sizes, demonstrating outstanding antifungal activity. This review highlights the success of using metal nanoparticles to control phytopathogenic fungi in agriculture. However, there are several points that need to be addressed before its widespread use for the control of phytopathogenic fungi.
