Abstract

These R scripts costitute the analysis code used to identify wetland regions exhibiting significant and persistent methane emissions using TROPOMI XCH4 observations in the tropics. The code supports our manuscript "Multi-scale evidence for thermal-hydrological synergy amplifying tropical wetland methane emissions", which is currently under revision. Please refer to README.md for more detailed information. Update in v1.1: Wind direction is now determined from the 100-m wind components, which better represent the wind direction within the boundary-layer height. We also note that this methane hotspot detection framework has been extended to a global scale, identifying 42 methane-emitting source regions in total: 24 in the tropics (the 18 considered here plus 6 additional), 8 in the temperate zone, and 10 in the boreal zone. The full R scripts are accessible at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.22639900.
