Code for "Spontaneous Emergence of Virtual Combat in High-Stakes Tournaments"
Abstract
This repository contains the Python simulation code for the agent-based evolutionary game model described in the paper "Spontaneous Emergence of Virtual Combat in High-Stakes Tournaments: An Agent-Based Model of Honor, Complexity, and Ritual" published in the Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation (JASSS), 2026. The code implements three key experiments: Honor-driven phase transition analysis on different network topologies Complexity as screening mechanism against free-riders Hysteresis under modernization disruption Model features: Agent-based evolutionary game on social networks Three-strategy system (Full Combat, Ritualized Combat, Defensive) Honor-based payoff structure Multiple network topologies (Small-World, Random, Scale-Free)
