Abstract

The street altarpiece dedicated to Our Lady of Europe, near the Alameda de Hércules in Seville, gave this space the name of Plaza de Europa. From 1685, it was served by a confraternity that paid for the renovation of the altarpiece and the new carving of the Virgin. The image was the patron saint of the provincial military regiment of Seville, which when it was retourned to the city in 1800, in gratitude, paid for the performance of a Salve sung by a musical chapel of the city and for a religious service in the convent of the Espíritu Santo.
