Scale Parameters and Cross Envelope Matching
Abstract
This paper shows that if scale parameters are required to remain admissibly compatible across multiple representational envelopes, then they cannot be treated as intrinsic descriptors without loss of standing. When scale is fixed within a single envelope, admissible redescription into an adjacent envelope generally requires respecification of scale in order to maintain boundary compatibility. Treating scale parameters as envelope-invariant quantities therefore produces mismatches at cross-envelope boundaries that cannot be reconciled without violating admissibility. The result is conditional and eliminative. It does not deny the operational relevance of scale parameters within a given representational envelope, nor does it specify how envelope matching should be achieved. Instead, it excludes interpretations in which scale parameters are assumed to persist unchanged across admissible envelope transitions while standing is preserved. Scale parameters are thereby constrained to function as envelope-relative descriptors under admissible cross-envelope matching.
