Abstract

AI does not invent magic. It amplifies whatever causal framing we provide. Given clear laws and explicit constraints, AI becomes an extraordinary scientific instrument: enforcing consistency across domains, exposing hidden contradictions, and stress-testing theories at a scale no human can manage. Given vague objectives and purely statistical targets, AI produces models that are internally coherent, empirically powerful, and causally hollow. The danger is not automation. It is mistaking internal consistency for physical causation. Boltzmann understood this distinction. Entropy does not describe information; it constrains it. Without macroscopic containment, microscopic detail becomes noise. Prediction becomes performance. Explanation becomes optional. That is when science starts to feel like magic.
