CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND CUSTOMER CARE BY Dr. Shakthi Prathaban
Abstract
In today’s competitive and consumer-driven marketplace, the role of consumer awareness and effective customer care has become more significant than ever before. With rapid globalization, digital transformation, and the expansion of service-oriented industries, consumers are no longer passive buyers but informed participants whose rights, expectations, and satisfaction determine the success of organizations. The book “Consumer Affairs and Customer Care” has been written with the objective of providing a comprehensive understanding of consumer rights, protection mechanisms, grievance redressal systems, and modern customer service practices. This book aims to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world applications in the field of consumer affairs. It presents a systematic explanation of consumer behavior, consumer protection laws, ethical business practices, and the functioning of consumer courts and regulatory bodies. Special emphasis is given to customer care management, complaint handling mechanisms, service quality, and the role of technology in enhancing customer satisfaction. The content has been structured in a simple, clear, and learner-friendly manner to benefit undergraduate and postgraduate students, faculty members, professionals, and aspiring entrepreneurs. Each chapter is designed to build conceptual clarity, supported by relevant examples, case discussions, and practical insights that reflect present-day consumer issues and service challenges. The book also highlights emerging trends such as e-commerce consumer rights, digital grievance redressal platforms, and customer relationship management in the digital era. This work is the result of sincere efforts to present an academically sound yet practically useful resource. I hope this book will help readers develop a strong understanding of consumer affairs, encourage ethical business practices, and promote responsible consumerism in society. I express my sincere gratitude to all those who directly or indirectly supported the completion of this book. I also extend my appreciation to educators, students, and professionals whose feedback and experiences continue to inspire meaningful academic contributions. Constructive suggestions for further improvement are always welcome.
