Abstract

# R⁸ (Leaf–Bank) Framework — Extended Abstract (Collaboration Prospectus) ## One-line ideaR⁸ is an IR–EFT “constitution” for coupling a structured hidden sector (“Bank”) to the observable SM+GR sector (“Leaf”) while **hard-enforcing**: (i) no low‑energy fifth‑force disaster, (ii) no tensor lightcone deformation (luminal GW speed), and (iii) no catastrophic gravitating vacuum offset. On top of that constitution, we propose a concrete, test-driven interface: the **Higgs as the Bank’s Avatar** through a **response/curvature (high‑pass) portal** with a **7‑knee transfer function** (“7 Seals”) that is silent at low momentum transfer but audible at Higgs‑scale and above. --- ## Why this exists (problem statement)Two long-running “pressure points” are treated as design constraints: 1) **Vacuum offset / cosmological constant pathology:** naive QFT vacuum contributions gravitate disastrously if treated as ordinary sources. 2) **Fifth forces + WEP violations:** any new long-range mediator coupled to SM matter is brutally constrained (lab ISL, WEP, stellar cooling). 3) **GW luminality and parity:** gravitational wave observations and consistency strongly disfavor broad classes of modified gravity operators that shift \(c_T\) or introduce parity-odd propagation in the IR. R⁸ does not claim to “solve everything in one move.” Instead it sets a **strict admissible operator class** (a “constitution”), and then builds modules that must stay inside it. --- ## Core architecture: Leaf vs Bank- **Leaf:** 4D Lorentzian spacetime with GR (Einstein–Hilbert) + Standard Model fields. - **Bank:** a bosonic hidden sector with internal structure, truncated at IR to: - a **heavy clustering mode** \(\phi_H\) (CDM-like dynamics), - a **protected ultralight mode** \(\phi_L\) (DE-like or ultralight dark sector dynamics). At the IR level we work with:\[S_{\rm Core}=S_{\rm grav}+S_{\rm SM}+S_{\rm bank}+S_{\rm portal}+S_{\rm gov}+S_{\rm seq}.\] --- ## Constitution v3.0: the four pillars (non-negotiable)### Pillar I — Leaf+Bank IR–EFTA minimal bank action (Einstein frame prototype):\[S_{\rm bank}=\int d^4x\sqrt{-g}\left[-\frac12 G_{ab}(\phi)\partial_\mu\phi^a\partial^\mu\phi^b - V(\phi_H,\phi_L)\right].\] ### Pillar II — Governance (BF \(\mathbb{Z}_k\))A topological BF sector imposes a **discrete gauge governance** \(\mathbb{Z}_k\) (benchmark \(k=24\)). Role:- constrains admissible couplings/operators,- stabilizes selection rules against radiative regeneration,- implies quantized “harmonic teeth” signatures (in principle, \(k\) can be inferred from patterns). ### Pillar III — Vacuum-offset sequester (DC filter, AC preserved)The sequester cancels only the **renormalized spacetime-constant (DC) offset**, not time-dependent bank dynamics. Define the spacetime average (zero-mode projector):\[\langle X\rangle =\frac{\int d^4x\sqrt{-g}\,X}{\int d^4x\sqrt{-g}},\qquad \delta X=X-\langle X\rangle.\]The sequester acts so that the effective curvature sourcing by the DC offset is canceled, while \(\delta\rho_{\rm bank}(x)\) remains gravitationally active. Representative topological/global structure:\[S_{\rm seq}\sim \int d^4x\sqrt{-g}\,(-\Lambda-\rho_{\rm vac}^{\rm ren})+\int \sigma(\Lambda/\mu^4)F_4.\] **Implication:** if the light mode were *exactly frozen*, its contribution becomes indistinguishable from a pure constant and gets routed into the offset sector. Therefore dynamical DE in sequestered realizations generically suggests \(w(z)\neq -1\) at some level. ### Pillar IV — Clause‑U (luminal operator class)Clause‑U is not a “post-hoc filter”; it *defines* the admissible gravity+scalar operator class:- minimal Einstein–Hilbert gravity,- canonical/minimally coupled scalars,- forbid curvature‑derivative scalar operators that shift tensor propagation (Horndeski-like),- exclude/suppress parity-odd GW propagation (e.g. gravitational Chern–Simons). Define:\[\alpha_T\equiv c_T^2-1.\]Clause‑U requires \(\alpha_T=0\) at tree level, and any induced \(\alpha_T\) must be EFT‑suppressed. --- ## Lorentz-safe “projection” layer: projector bundle + governorTo prevent “projector-induced Lorentz leakage” (e.g. preferred-frame artifacts in discretized/engineered models), R⁸ introduces: - an effective internal **bank connection** \(\mathcal{A}_\mu\) (transport/holonomy, not a second spacetime),- a projector-bundle induced connection \(\omega_\mu\sim P(\partial_\mu+\mathcal{A}_\mu)P^\top\),- a **governor certification** in toy-discrete settings via metrics on a stabilized projector \(Q\): - idempotency: \(\varepsilon_{\rm idem}=\|Q^2-Q\|_F\), - tail jitter: \(\varepsilon_{\rm tail}={\rm RMS}(\|Q_{t+1}-Q_t\|_F)\), - locality/torsion proxy: \(\tau_Q=\|[Q,L]\|_F\) with \(L\) a locality Laplacian. **PASS/FAIL gates**: Clause‑U (luminal), WEP/PPN, sequester (no signaling, regulated four-volume), governor certification, parity gate. --- ## The Higgs Avatar module: why the Higgs is the privileged interfaceAfter EWSB, essentially all SM masses are proportional to the Higgs VEV \(v\). So any admissible “scale disturbance” on the leaf is effectively Higgs-mediated. ### Option A (baseline translator) and why it’s structurally pressuredA Jordan-frame conformal portal:\[\tilde g_{\mu\nu}=A^2(\phi)g_{\mu\nu},\quadA(\phi)\approx 1+\frac{C}{M_*}\phi+\cdots\]yields an Einstein-frame trace coupling:\[\mathcal{L}_{\rm int}\simeq \frac{C}{M_*}\phi\,T^\mu{}_\mu(\mathrm{SM}).\]Equivalent Higgs portal:\[\mathcal{L}\supset -\kappa\phi H^\dagger H\ \Rightarrow\ \theta \sim \frac{\kappa v}{m_h^2}\sim \frac{C_H v}{M_*}.\]Static-force strength proxy:\[\alpha(M_*,C_H)=2\left(\frac{C_H M_{\rm Pl}}{M_*}\right)^2.\]This is generically crushed by low‑\(q\) constraints unless decoupled. ### Option A′ (Response–Higgs): the structural pivotReplace static coupling by a response/curvature (high‑pass) portal:\[\mathcal{L}_{\rm DP}\sim \frac{1}{M_*\Lambda_{\rm ind}^2}\,\partial_\mu\phi\,\partial^\mu(H^\dagger H)\quad \text{or}\quad\frac{1}{M_*\Lambda_{\rm ind}^2}\,\phi\,\Box(H^\dagger H).\]A single-seal response factor:\[F(q^2)=\frac{q^2}{q^2+\Lambda_{\rm ind}^2},\qquad C_{\rm eff}(q)=C_H F(q^2),\]so low‑\(q\) becomes parametrically silent while Higgs-scale processes can remain active. --- ## 7 Seals: the multi-knee response filter (the “transfer-function core”)Define the 7-Seal transfer function:\[p(q)=\prod_{j=1}^{7}\frac{q^2}{q^2+\Lambda_j^2}.\]Interpretation: \(\{\Lambda_j\}\) is a **knee spectrum**—a structured UV transfer proxy (consistent with clockwork/deconstruction narratives without committing to a unique UV completion). ### Canonical families (benchmarks)- **all_10GeV:** \(\{10,10,10,10,10,10,10\}\,\mathrm{GeV}\) - **tight_low:** \(\{0.3,0.5,1,2,3,5,10\}\,\mathrm{GeV}\) - **ladder_1_Lmax (jurisdiction-fixed stack):** \(\{1,2,3,5,10,30,L_{\max}\}\,\mathrm{GeV}\) with primary dial \(L_{\max}\sim 100\)–\(120\) GeV. ### Low‑q anchors (structural fingerprint)\[q_{\rm WEP}\approx 2.819\times 10^{-23}\,\mathrm{GeV},\ q_{\rm ISL}\approx 3.947\times 10^{-12}\,\mathrm{GeV},\ q_{\rm STAR}\approx 3.0\times 10^{-5}\,\mathrm{GeV},\ q_{\rm HIGGS}\approx 125\,\mathrm{GeV}.\] ### Leakage: the “non-negotiable” failure modeResidual forbidden DC leakage is parameterized as \(\epsilon_0\). Conservative effective coupling:\[p_{\rm eff}(q)=\max\{p(q),\epsilon_0\}.\](Alternative additive/quadrature modes exist for robustness checks.) Leakage is closed (toy-level) by pairing:1) **least-coupling (Damour–Polyakov) relaxation** in an e-fold-like variable \(N\):\[\epsilon_{\rm DP}(N)=\epsilon_0^{\rm init}e^{-\kappa N},\qquad\epsilon_{\rm DP}^{\rm quad}(N)=\left(\epsilon_0^{\rm init}e^{-\kappa N}\right)^2,\]with a working example \(\epsilon_0^{\rm init}=10^{-2},\ \kappa=1,\ N=23\Rightarrow \epsilon_{\rm DP}\simeq 1.053\times10^{-24}\);2) a **radiative floor proxy**:\[\epsilon_{\rm loop}=e^{-S_{\rm shift}}\left[\frac{c_{\rm loop}}{16\pi^2}\right]\left(\frac{m_h^2}{m_h^2+\Lambda_{\rm ind}^2}\right),\]combined conservatively:\[\epsilon_0^{\rm today}=\max\{\epsilon_{\rm DP},\epsilon_{\rm loop}\}.\] ### Turn-on geometry (knee descriptors)Define \(q_x\) by \(p(q_x)=x\) for \(x\in\{0.1,0.5,0.9\}\). Then:\[W=\ln\left(\frac{q_{90}}{q_{10}}\right),\qquadA=\frac{\ln(q_{50}/q_{10})}{\ln(q_{90}/q_{50})}.\] --- ## Nine-Front Closure (what was “closed” structurally)The closure program defines nine fronts as minimal failure modes that must be addressed before taking the Response–Higgs module seriously:1) leakage closure, 2) radiative floor closure, 3) low‑q fingerprint, 4) turn-on geometry, 5) UV gear watchlists, 6) collider mapping, 7) collider bin design, 8) cosmology refactor to \(\Omega h^2\) wall, 9) self-consistent TR-wall solver near knees. --- ## Primary positive prediction: the collider ladderDefine a **shape-only** template:\[R(q)=\left(\frac{p_{\rm eff}(q)}{p_{\rm eff}(125\,\mathrm{GeV})}\right)^2.\]It is intended to be applied to Higgs observables with an experimentally defensible \(q\)-proxy. ### Optimized knee+tail binning (toy-level but actionable)\[q_{\rm bins}=\{80,90,95,100,400,500,800,1000\}\ \mathrm{GeV}.\]Representative ladder values (normalized at 125 GeV):- **ladder_1_100:** \([0.3433, 0.4801, 0.5526, 0.6268, 2.6777, 2.8078, 2.9591, 2.9957]\)- **ladder_1_117:** \([0.2994, 0.4335, 0.5073, 0.5846, 3.3568, 3.5723, 3.8289, 3.8918]\)- **ladder_1_120:** \([0.2930, 0.4265, 0.5004, 0.5781, 3.4930, 3.7276, 4.0081, 4.0771]\) Inference philosophy: **shape-first** (free amplitude), yielding soft posteriors on \(L_{\max}\) instead of brittle yes/no claims. --- ## Flavor / meson watchlist (triage)A structural check asks whether the same filter that suppresses WEP/ISL/stellar constraints also suppresses effective mixing at \(q\sim\) GeV. Define:\[\theta_0=\frac{C_H v}{M_*},\qquad \theta_{\rm eff}(q)=\theta_0\,p(q).\]Evaluate at:\[q_B\in\{1,2,3,5\}\ \mathrm{GeV},\]and compare to a conservative proxy threshold:\[\theta_{\rm eff}(q_B)
