Abstract

On 5/2/2025 #AIMEN hosted an insightful online workshop as part of the #SMARTHANDLE project, focusing on novel technologies that enhance perception and control in industrial workpiece handling. This session provided an overview of cutting-edge advancements in human perception technologies, vision-based quality control, and fiber optic sensors, all aimed at improving automation processes in European industries. The workshop featured detailed presentations on: ☑️Human perception technologies – ROS2, Artificial Intelligence, Object Detection, Stereo Vision, and Hand Gesture Recognition for industrial robot control. ☑️ Lenses visual control – Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Transformers for optimizing code reading on contact lenses. ☑️ Fiber Optic Sensors – Key concepts, types, and applications in industrial settings. The event included live demonstrations, real-world applications, and an interactive Q&A session with experts from AIMEN. Presenters included Arantxa Rentería, Ruben Ruiz, Isidro Fernández, Alejandro Grajeda, and Damián Pintos, professionals with extensive experience in robotics, automation, machine learning and fiber optic-based technologies. This workshop serves as a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, students, and industry professionals interested in integrating advanced perception and control technologies into their work.
