Abstract

This book offers a revised and updated version of the text originally published in 2017, drawing on a decade of accumulated experience in clinical psychology practice. The author argues that human beings often live conditioned by rigid thinking patterns, inherited beliefs, and learning shaped by family and social environments, which can limit personal freedom, well-being, and the ability to achieve a fulfilling life. From this perspective, change begins with awareness of one’s current emotional reality, identifying what diminishes happiness, and defining concrete purposes through realistic goals. The work develops theoretical foundations on personality, needs, and motivation, integrating contributions from developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, and humanistic approaches. It emphasizes that satisfaction and suffering depend largely on the relationship between reality perception and personal expectations, highlighting the importance of revisiting subjective interpretations, assuming individual responsibility, and avoiding the tendency to blame others for one’s setbacks. Practical strategies to sustain change are also addressed, including monitoring personal progress, motivation, discipline, perseverance, the development of healthy habits, and strengthening internal resources such as self-esteem and self-confidence. The text further links psychological well-being to everyday and social factors such as nutrition and its neurochemical influence on mood, stress management, family life, friendship, the sociocultural environment, and coexistence amid hypocrisy, criticism, and conflict. Finally, it reaffirms human freedom as the capacity to choose attitudes in the face of circumstances, promoting a life consistent with one’s convictions, open to continuous transformation, and oriented toward human development and psychosocial well-being. Keywords: Mental health; Applied psychology; Human development; Psychosocial well-being; Interdisciplinarity.
