Abstract

This paper uses the design philosophy (relational drive theory) of Patent No. 7059476 to analyze and describe structural stagnation in contemporary Japan.Using an engineering perspective and the framework advocated by drive theory, we define contemporary Japan's system not simply as a government organization, but as a "bloated guardrail" in a social operating system. Positioning the global economy as an external "higher node" and the domestic economy as an "internal resource," we observe the current situation in which the administrative and bureaucratic organizations, positioned in between, have lost their original functions as APIs (interfaces) and controllers. The purpose of this paper is to observe and describe how the current design philosophy, which views "inconsistencies" that arise within the system as errors that must be eliminated, is leading to stagnation of driving energy.
