Abstract

• 2015 represents the historical low point in the perception of safety in almost all Italian regions, followed by a gradual recovery. • Some southern regions, such as Campania and Calabria, record the most significant improvements, while Trentino–Alto Adige shows a decline despite initially high values. • The perception of safety does not coincide with actual crime data, but reflects social, cultural, and urban factors that deeply affect quality of life.
