Abstract

[Presented at AAS-247 Special Session "NASA's Habitable Worlds Observatory"] The science scope of the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) spans a wide range of very different areas: astrobiology, exoplanets, astrophysics, and solar system remote sensing. That complex landscape poses unique challenges for obtaining the quantitative understanding needed to thoroughly inform mission concept development. Here we present software tools currently available to the community for understanding HWO’s potential capabilities and helping to refine them, including exposure time calculators for candidate science instruments. The presentation will show how science, engineering, and technology must band together in the journey to realize this revolutionary endeavor.
