Abstract
The Ravana Kaviyam is based on the Ramayana story. In this epic, Ravana is the protagonist, and it portrays the cultural excellence of the Tamils and the greatness of Ravana. The hospitality of our ancient Tamils is highlighted as a paramount virtue. It has been revered as the foremost virtue among the domestic duties. It is evident from Sangam Tamil literature that this characteristic of the Tamils has flourished from ancient times. The Ravana Kaviyam mentions hospitality, the manner of treating guests, women cooking food for guests, people offering Ravana food such as millet flour, pure honey, mangoes, sweet jackfruit segments, fragrant tubers, rice, curries, and gravies, and the Tamils welcoming and offering hospitality to the Aryans. This article examines the aspects of hospitality in the Ravana Kaviyam.
