Abstract

literary works focus on praising deities and individuals as their subject matter. These are called Prabandham or minor literature in Sanskrit. "A poem composed for the warrior who defeated a thousand elephants in battle is called Parani," is a verse from the Ilakkana Vilakka Paattiyal (a treatise on Tamil prosody). It refers to praising a warrior who achieved victory in battle. This research examines the concept of 'meyppadu' (emotions/expressions) in Tolkappiyam, and the situation and mental fortitude of women on the battlefield.
