Abstract

Three Jupyter notebooks written in Python and MyST markdown for use in PHY 350 Experimental Physics. Includes estimation of expected experimental values, signal detection and capture methods, use of oscilloscope to determine counter-timer threshold levels needed to discriminate between signal pulses from the scintillator/solid-state photomultiplier and electronic noise, basics statistics calculations, automated data collection, and generation of histograms (count and time interval between events) characteristic of random events. Consideration of Poisson statistics and curve fitting to data to follow in future Jupyter notebooks.
