Abstract

Abstract: Introduction: This systematic review evaluated the influence of physical activity (PA) and sports practice on the academic performance of adolescents in Spain. Aim: To assess the influence of physical activity (PA) and sports practice on the academic performance of adolescents in Spain. Methods: Ten papers were included, which included, among other variables, the intensity and modality of exercise, and academic performance through grades, number of failed subjects and other indicators. Results & discussion: The regular practice of physical activity (PA) and sport is generally associated with improvements in the academic performance of adolescents in Spain. Conclusions: The findings show that high levels of PA and the implementation of brief interventions integrated into the school environment are associated with better academic outcomes, improvements in cognitive functions and overall school performance.
