Abstract

CAHC states the axioms from which the manuscript family is built. Axiom 1: life is consciousness, the identity is binary, but its subject is aliveness: consciousness obtains wherever the S3 locking state is actively held by the cell's own evaluative work. Life is graded (the organization the chain describes); aliveness is the binary state of it running. Axiom 2: cells are architects through directed trial-and-error, the cell authors DNA and builds the structures of multicellular life, including the nervous system. Axiom 3: unity of experience is synchronization, implemented by glial orchestration. The elaboration chain, lock → memory → bias → agency → trial-and-error → authored DNA replaces the earlier graded ladder, which contradicted the binary axiom. Falsifiers are led by the operational astrocyte prediction; the remainder are marked in-principle; the non-living-matter falsifier is repaired with the S3 qualifier, and the dormancy falsifier with the alive qualifier (a dormant cell is life, not alive, not conscious). Version 2.0 (September 2026): self-contained trim six companion-family self-citations removed, restoring the foundation-cites-nothing architecture; epistemic status labels translated to prose; Axiom 1 restated with the aliveness criterion and the six-link chain.
