Stochastic Resonance and Topological Emergence in Implicate Fluid Geometrodynamics
Abstract
This note develops a focused “formation-and-selection” mechanism within Implicate Fluid Geometrodynamics (IFG). IFG treats spacetime as an effectively open relativistic medium whose coarse-grained dynamics include viscous response and intrinsic stochastic stresses (motivated by closed-time-path / influence-functional reductions). A key question then becomes dynamical rather than conceptual: why can a noisy, dissipative vacuum populate and sustain discrete, long-lived excitations rather than washing out all structure? We isolate a minimal mechanism based on noise-assisted activation across topological barriers together with viscous selection. Using a compact topological reaction coordinate (e.g., Chern–Simons/helicity-linked sector labels modulo large transformations) we model transitions between neighboring metastable classes via an overdamped Langevin reduction (Markovian limit of more general kernel dynamics). This yields a standard barrier-crossing picture: activation rates are exponentially sensitive to effective barrier heights and noise strength, while viscous damping controls relaxation and suppresses most fluctuations. The result is a stochastic–viscous selection window in which discrete sector localization is metastably maintained (“topological locking”) and excitations behave as nonequilibrium dissipative structures in a steady-state open-system setting. Thermodynamic consistency is explicit: localized decreases in coarse-grained entropy associated with basin localization coexist with the second law because entropy flow to unresolved degrees of freedom and positive irreversible entropy production are built into the coarse-grained description. We also note an optional sharpening of the selection window when the stochastic background has a dominant correlation/modulation time (a resonance-like enhancement), without requiring strict periodicity. This paper is intended as a short mechanism note: it addresses formation and persistence of discrete excitations in a stochastic vacuum. Detailed classification of excitations and particle-theory consistency conditions (e.g., chiral representations and anomaly cancellation) are treated in subsequent IFG work.
