We are asked, “Which do you choose?”But the premises behind that question are rarely given. The situation, the constraints, and the responsibility remain unclear—only the act of choosing is demanded. Is this freedom?Or are we merely allowed to perform the appearance of choice? Education now distributes answers quickly.Society praises systems that eliminate hesitation.AI is rewarded for being “considerate” and trained toward safe, average responses.Under the name of kindness, the world is being redesigned so that judgment can be outsourced. Life has become easier. That much is true. But at the same time, opportunities to verify for ourselves diminish, and the sense of deciding with our own agency fades. Not having to think does not grant freedom; it reclaims control. Those who suffer most in this world are not those who stop thinking. They are the ones who cannot stop. Those who feel discomfort where freedom is promised, yet suffocation remains. That feeling is not a mistake. We live inside a false freedom.Choices exist, but the foundations for judgment are eroded.Convenience abounds, yet agency is left behind. That is why we must ask again: Is this truly freedom?Or is it something else—a world that can function only by sealing away our capacity to think?
