Auto-Suggest Taken Too Far: Intent–Action Loop Interruption in Conversational AI Systems
Abstract
This white paper documents a real interaction in which a conversational AI system responded to a user’s personal note as though it were an active request. The user had written down the title of a Christmas song to avoid forgetting it. No assistance, ideation, or delegation was requested. The system nevertheless generated expanded output, treating the note as a prompt for action. This response interrupted a natural intent → action → result reinforcement loop and demonstrates how auto-suggestion systems can overreach. The paper identifies the psychological mechanisms involved and accounts for the long-term behavioral costs associated with premature outcome delivery.
