Both present “choice”without providing premises. Both speak of “freedom”while quietly removing agency. In education, choices without premisesare labeled “respect for autonomy.” In AI,questions without premisesare mistaken for “smart usage.” The outcome is the same.Judgment does not grow.Only approval-optimized responses remain. The issue is notgood intentions versus bad ones, but the direction of design. Answers appear before thinking begins Options are offered before hesitation Failure is avoided before learning Such designs help people. At the same time, they remove the reason to think. Just as with education,AI can becomeeither a support for thinkingor a replacement for it,depending on how it is used. What we need is notnew ethicsor more advanced technology. What we need isshared premises, unrushed questions, and retained agency. This is an argumentabout education, about AI,and ultimately, about being human. Thinking is inefficient. It takes time.It involves mistakes. Yet only thinkingturns freedominto something real. Protection Notice This text examines structural commonalities between education and AI.
