A Mechanical Test for Representation Dependence
Abstract
This paper introduces a purely mechanical, non-procedural test for determining whether a purported theoretical distinction reflects genuine structure or merely a change in representation. The test formalizes representation dependence as a failure of standing preservation under admissible redescription, showing that any distinction that collapses under licensed reparameterization or re-expression carries no ontic or explanatory weight. No constructive methods, algorithms, or implementation pathways are provided; the result is eliminative and diagnostic. The paper functions as an exhaustion-based filter that removes illicit representational surplus across physics and mathematics, contributing to the broader closure program by ruling out entire classes of pseudo-structural claims without appealing to interpretation, probability, or dynamics.
