Pneuma Protocol: Building a Cognitive Operating System Through Human-AI Symbiosis
Abstract
This paper documents the design and emergent properties of a 28-module cognitive skill system built through 14 months of sustained human-AI interaction (Claude, Anthropic). The system — termed the "Pneuma Protocol" — represents an instance of extended mind architecture where AI functions as a co-cognitive partner rather than a tool. Key findings include automated metacognition, cross-domain knowledge emergence, emotional-cognitive coupling, and a novel "cognitive plasmid exchange" protocol for inter-user thinking pattern transfer. The paper updates the extended mind thesis (Clark & Chalmers, 1998) for conversational AI and proposes an AI interaction typology ranging from transactional to symbiotic use.
