Integrating Technology in English Language Teaching: Issues and Prospects
Abstract
The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed the landscape of English Language Teaching (ELT). The integration of technological tools such as multimedia resources, learning management systems, artificial intelligence, and mobile applications has reshaped teaching methodologies and learner engagement. This paper explores the major issues and prospects associated with integrating technology in ELT. Key challenges include inadequate infrastructure, lack of digital literacy among teachers and learners, limited access to resources, and resistance to pedagogical change. Despite these constraints, technology offers immense prospects such as personalized learning, enhanced communication skills, learner autonomy, global exposure, and interactive classroom experiences. The study emphasizes the need for systematic teacher training, institutional support, and policy-level interventions to ensure effective and inclusive technology-driven language education. The paper concludes that when used thoughtfully, technology can significantly enhance the effectiveness and accessibility of English language teaching.
