Abstract

Description This dataset accompanies the manuscript “Predicting Success of Cooperators Across Arbitrary Heterogeneous Environmental Landscapes” and its Supplementary Information. It contains all simulation codes, processed numerical data, and plotting scripts used to generate the results reported in the paper. The study investigates the evolution of cooperation in spatially heterogeneous environments using a spatial Moran death–birth process on one- and two-dimensional lattices. Environmental heterogeneity is modeled through spatial variation in cooperative benefits, and the central result of the manuscript is that cooperative success across arbitrary environmental landscapes is predicted by a single quantity: the Spatial Correlation Index (SCI). The dataset includes results for segregated, checkerboard, periodic, random, and intermediate environmental configurations, as analyzed in Figures 3–6 of the main text and in the Supplementary Information. The archive contains: Simulation outputs used to compute fixation probabilities and long-term cooperation levels Code used to generate the data and perform stochastic simulations Plotting scripts that reproduce all figures in the manuscript and SI Final figure files as shown in the paper Folder Overview The ZIP archive preserves the full directory structure of the project: Main_Fig3_Fig4/Data and plotting scripts for fixation probabilities in segregated and checkerboard (2-chromatic) environments in 1D and 2D lattices. These folders reproduce Figures 3 and 4 of the manuscript, illustrating how low versus high environmental mixing promotes or suppresses cooperation. Main_Fig5/Data and analysis linking fixation probability to the Spatial Correlation Index (SCI) across random, periodic, and patterned landscapes. This folder reproduces Figure 5, demonstrating that SCI serves as a unifying predictor of cooperative success across arbitrary environmental configurations. Main_Fig6/Simulation results for temporal dynamics and long-term levels of cooperation, including metastable coexistence and fixation times in heterogeneous environments. These data reproduce Figure 6 of the manuscript. SI/Supplementary datasets supporting robustness, validation, and extended analyses, including additional environmental patterns, random configurations, and temporal dynamics (Figures S2–S10). These results complement and extend the main-text findings. Simulations/Complete simulation codebases (C++ and scripts) used to generate the data for all main figures and supplementary analyses. This folder includes separate implementations for different figures, along with flowcharts illustrating the simulation workflows. Each of the above folders contains a dedicated README file explaining the purpose of the data, the simulation protocol, and how the files relate to specific figures or analyses in the manuscript. Additional Notes for Reviewers Due to file-number limitations on the hosting platform, all materials are provided as a single ZIP archive. This archive preserves the full directory hierarchy of the project and is intended to be downloaded and explored locally. We have included descriptive README files at the top level and within each major subfolder. Reviewers are encouraged to consult these README files for detailed explanations of the data format, plotting scripts, and simulation codes relevant to each figure and analysis.
