EQUATIONS AND EXPRESSIONS IN PRIMARY EDUCATION, METHODS FOR DEVELOPING LOGICAL THINKING
Abstract
This methodologically recommended practical exercise template is dedicated to effectively covering the topic of formulating and solving equations in elementary school mathematics based on the 3E and 5E models, developing students' critical and creative thinking through logical tasks, and explaining logical tasks in mathematics lessons through working in small groups. During the lesson, students are trained in a simple and understandable way to determine an unknown number, construct expressions, and work with equations. In the “Engage” stage, students’ attention is drawn to real-life examples, and in the “Explore” stage, they are enabled to construct equations and find solutions on their own. In the “Explain” stage, the student understands the topic more deeply by explaining his/her opinion. Using the 3E and 5E models, the lesson is organized in an interactive, communicative, and creative spirit. Through this method, students develop the skills of independent thinking, analysis, and coherent explanation. The recommendation provides guidance to teachers in teaching the topic of equations in an effective and modern way.
