Abstract

This paper establishes a generator–terminal impossibility result for meta-foundational re-anchoring. It proves that no admissible formal system can generate, recover, or stabilize its own legitimacy by appeal to a higher-level foundation once admissibility has failed. Meta-foundational re-anchoring is shown to be terminally blocked at the generator level. The analysis demonstrates that all re-anchoring strategies—stronger logics, richer meta-languages, semantic ascent, alternative foundations, or external justificatory frameworks—presuppose the very standing they claim to restore. When formalized explicitly, re-anchoring functions as an illicit operator that attempts to manufacture legitimacy ex nihilo via scope transport across the admissibility boundary. The generator–terminal structure is central: once a system violates admissibility, there exists no admissible generator capable of producing a repaired foundation, nor any terminal state in which legitimacy can be re-established. Failure is absorbing, not progressive. “Going meta” does not widen the admissible interior; it merely disguises circularity at a higher descriptive layer. The result is strictly negative and non-constructive. The paper introduces no alternative foundations and proposes no recovery mechanisms. Its contribution is to demonstrate, by exhaustion, that meta-foundational ascent is not a pathway to repair but a structurally forbidden move. This work forms part of a broader closure program that establishes generator-terminal exhaustion for all known foundational repair operators, placing hard limits on legitimacy transfer, recovery, and hierarchical justification in mathematics, logic, and physics.
