Life as Maxwell's Demon: An Informational Theory of Biological Defiance
Abstract
Author's Note This is a short speculative essay and not a formal proof; an attempt to think sideways about a real paradox. The goal is to make the core idea easier to follow without draining the language of its force. When Life Seems to Defy Entropy The second law of thermodynamics says that closed systems drift toward disorder. Energy spreads out. Structure erodes. Over time, things fall apart. Yet life does the opposite in plain sight. From bacteria to forests to reflective human minds, living systems continuously build and maintain islands of order. So the question is not whether entropy is real. The question is how life keeps winning locally while the law still holds globally. My proposal is a metaphor with teeth: life is Maxwell's Demon made real.
