Abstract

Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) are fundamental to quality assurance in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries. These regulations ensure medicinal products are manufactured and controlled according to quality standards that protect patient safety. cGMP guidelines mitigate manufacturing risks like contamination, mix-ups, and documentation errors that cannot be eliminated through end-product testing alone. This chapter overviews cGMP principles and their role in ensuring product quality throughout its lifecycle, examining regulatory evolution and the importance of "current" in adopting modern technologies and risk-based approaches. It outlines core elements of cGMP compliance, including organizational structure, personnel training, facility design, environmental control, and utilities management. Key aspects like raw material control, production procedures, monitoring, and laboratory testing demonstrate consistency maintenance. Documentation practices, including SOPs and batch records, form the basis of regulatory compliance and traceability. The chapter covers validation of equipment and processes, change control, deviation management, complaint handling, and corrective actions. Integration of Quality Risk Management and Quality by Design within cGMP frameworks shows how risk assessment enhances manufacturing compliance. Global regulatory perspectives from FDA, WHO, and EMA provide international context, while common inspection findings offer insights into audit preparedness and emphasizes cGMP as a dynamic system ensuring pharmaceutical products maintain consistent quality and safety, supporting public trust in healthcare systems.
