SMART LED CRICKET STUMPS USING NOT GATE
Abstract
This research project represents the design, analysis and implementation of an LED enabled cricket stumpsystem intended to enhance on-field visibility and provide instantaneous visual feedback during gameplay. Theproposed system is developed using simple digital electronics, with a NOT gate (IC 7404) serving as theprimary logic element. A voltage regulator (IC LM7805) is incorporated to step down a 9V DC supply to a stable5V, ensuring consistent circuit operation. The conductive contacts integrated into the stumps and bails act asthe sensing and switching mechanism. During normal play, when the bails are properly seated, the circuitmaintains a logic HIGH input, keeping the LED indicators in the OFF state. When the bails are dislodged, theconductive path is interrupted, causing the input logic to shift to LOW and immediately activating the LEDs.This response provides a clear, real-time indication of stump disturbance without requiring complex sensors ormicro-controllers. The system design and performance are analyzed with respect to simplicity, cost andreliability. By using readily available components, the prototype is compact and low-cost. This researchhighlights the potential of basic electronic systems in sports innovation and demonstrates applicability intraining sessions, grassroots tournaments and scalable smart sporting infrastructure.
