FROM COMPLEXITY TO CLARITY: MERGING SOFT SYSTEMS THINKING WITH KNOWLEDGE TRANSCENDENCE IN MODERN ORGANIZATIONS
Abstract
In an era characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA), traditional problem-solving frameworks often fail to address the dynamic and interconnected challenges faced by 21st-century organizations. This paper proposes an integrative approach that merges Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) with the emerging concept of Knowledge Transcendence (KT) to create a holistic model for organizational learning, adaptation, and innovation. While SSM provides a structured yet flexible process for exploring human-centered problems and multiple stakeholder perspectives, KT extends this framework by emphasizing the continuous evolution and transformation of knowledge across individual, collective, and systemic levels. The synthesis of these two paradigms fosters a shift from linear problem-solving to cyclical learning systems capable of transcending disciplinary and cognitive boundaries. Through this integration, organizations can move from complexity to clarity—developing adaptive intelligence, reflective practices, and collaborative cultures that thrive amid rapid change. The paper concludes by outlining a conceptual model for implementing this hybrid approach, offering a pathway toward sustainable problem-solving and knowledge-driven transformation in modern organizational contexts.
