Abstract

The JWST/MIRI detection of CEERS2-588 at z = 11.04 reveals a massive (log₁₀(M₊/M⊙) ≈ 9.1), metal-rich galaxy with strong rest-UV emission and a pronounced Balmer break, but stringent upper limits on Hα and [O III] line fluxes. This suggests an extended star-formation history (SFH) followed by a rapid quenching within ∼10 Myr. We propose an effective field theory inspired by Entanglement-Weighted Operator Geometry (EWOG), in which a coherence state variable S(t) modulates the gravitational collapse efficiency and introduces a “coherence-quench” backreaction that suppresses nebular emission on Myr timescales while preserving UV luminosity over ∼100 Myr. We derive the dynamical equations for gas, stars, and the coherence variable, compute observable spectral energy distributions (SEDs) and line fluxes, and construct a joint likelihood for photometric, spectroscopic, and censored line-limit data. Using nested sampling, we perform Bayesian parameter inference and compare models via Akaike/Bayesian information criteria (AIC/BIC) and a posterior-volume figure of merit (FoM). Four competing explanations are examined: (i) a flexible ΛCDM SFH with bursty feedback, (ii) ΛCDM with extreme ionizing-photon escape, (iii) conformal cyclic cosmology (CCC) motivated episodic resets, and (iv) quantum-gravity (string theory/loop quantum gravity) inspired priors on EWOG parameters. We show that EWOG provides a natural mechanism for the observed UV–Hα discrepancy and yields a superior FoM on quenching parameters. The framework delivers falsifiable predictions for deeper spectroscopic follow-up and population statistics.
