A Simple Cable-Driven Hydraulic Excavator Grabber with Telescopic Reach
Abstract
Abstract This paper presents a conceptual design for an excavator-mounted grabber that combines a cable-driven closing mechanism with a hydraulically actuated telescopic arm. The grabber opens and closes via a steel cable, while a separate hydraulic cylinder extends and retracts the telescopic section. This dual-function design aims to provide practical reach and grasping capability with minimal mechanical complexity, inspired by existing mechanical principles while addressing cost and maintenance challenges. The concept is shared openly to encourage adaptation and prototyping.
