The Adiabatic Limit: Rate-Integrity Coupling and the Impossibility of Compressed Recovery in Systems with Memory (ZLT-IMP-006)
Abstract
A Zero Leap Theory (ZLT) Impossibility Result. Current recovery frameworks operate under the implicit assumption that if a recovery protocol is correct in kind (e.g., correct code refactoring, correct physical therapy, correct ecological restoration), it can be compressed in time without penalty by increasing intensity. This paper proves this assumption false for any system with memory satisfying standard thermodynamic constraints. We derive the Adiabatic Limit (ZLT-IMP-006), which establishes that the rate of structural reorganization ($\rho$) is physically bounded by the system's intrinsic relaxation timescale ($\tau_{relax}$). Exceeding this limit ($\rho > \rho_{crit}$) does not speed up recovery; instead, it forces the system into the Adiabatic Shadow—a pathological state where macroscopic performance metrics ($\hat{\Phi}$) indicate full recovery, while microstructural integrity ($\mathcal{A}$) remains critically compromised. Key Results: The Fragile Recrystallization Theorem: We prove that compressed protocols produce "glassy" states (high energy, low order) that are observationally indistinguishable from genuine recovery under normal conditions but collapse deterministically under stress (Survival Rate: 38% vs 94%). The Haste Entropy ($S_{haste}$): We quantify the irreversible structural disorder generated solely by rate compression, proving that time is not fungible with intensity. Computational Proof: The impossibility is verified via a dual-engine protocol (Python + React) simulating a 2D Edwards-Anderson Spin Glass ($N=144$, $10^4$ trials), demonstrating the divergence of Performance ($\Phi$) and Integrity ($\mathcal{A}$) in the non-adiabatic regime. Cross-Domain Universality: Validated across 10 domains, including Metallurgy (Quenching), Software Engineering (Technical Debt), and Oncology (Chemotherapy Toxicity), identifying the same topological failure mode in each.
