Abstract

The data contained within this repository are a subset of the data used for the Global risk of deadly heat research paper, available at https://doi.org/10.1038/nclimate3322. The dataset was compiled through searching available online databases for peer-reviewed publications on heat-related mortality published between 1980 and 2014 to identify 1,949 case studies of cities or regions where excess mortality was associated with high tempreatures. A full description of methods can be found in the associated Global risk of deadly heat paper. This particular subset refers to heatwaves above the 90th percentile threshold for those heatwaves where heat-related mortality was documented, covering location and dates, while data on the number of deaths was inconsistently reported.
