Project Quine: Autopoietic Intelligence via Fractal POSIX Processes (Preliminary Implementation v0.1)
Abstract
Description: This repository contains the preliminary source code (v0.1) for Project Quine, a novel agentic architecture that reimagines Large Language Model (LLM) agents through the lens of Unix philosophy and biological autopoiesis. Unlike monolithic agent frameworks, Project Quine treats intelligence as a fractal process rooted in the operating system. By enforcing strict thermodynamic constraints (ephemeral lifecycles, process isolation) and utilizing standard Unix streams, the system achieves emergent self-correction and robust state management without complex external orchestrators. Key Contributions: • Fractal POSIX Architecture: Agents are modeled as ephemeral, recursive Unix processes rather than persistent objects, leveraging the OS kernel for resource isolation. • Thermodynamic Context Management: Solving the "context pollution" problem via process apoptosis (scheduled death) and regeneration, enforcing a metabolic limit on agent lifespan. • The "Stream-Gradient" Isomorphism: Proposing a theoretical alignment where standard error streams (stderr) function as semantic gradients, enabling recursive optimization and error handling akin to biological feedback loops. Note: This is a preliminary research artifact. The full paper and advanced implementation are forthcoming.
