Diagnosis of Pneumoperitoneum Using Ultrasound
Abstract
Pneumoperitoneum has a broad differential diagnosis and may vary in severity; however, not all cases require surgery. It is essential that every patient with this diagnosis be evaluated by a surgeon. Determining the appropriate management, including whether surgical intervention is necessary, depends on a careful assessment of the clinical history, physical examination, and investigation to identify the source of the pneumoperitoneum [1].
