Neva River Estuary (Middle Part) Aggregated Vertical Profiles Dataset (2014–2024)
Abstract
This record contains Version 2.0.0 of the processed, quality-controlled, analysis-ready dataset associated with the study of vertical chlorophyll a structure in the middle part of the Neva River estuary, eastern Gulf of Finland, Baltic Sea. The dataset is associated with the article available at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.marenvres.2026.108343 The release contains two data components: Aggregated vertical profiles 58 station-event profiles collected at seven monitoring stations during late July–early August across 10 field years between 2014 and 2024. Quality-controlled replicate casts were aggregated into 0.1-m depth bins and averaged within station-event depth bins. Layer-composite fluorescence validation data 57 paired observations collected at the same seven stations during 2014–2024. The study-specific validation analyses use the 47 observations from 2014–2020 and 2022; observations from 2023–2024 are retained in the deposited workbook for completeness. The vertical-profile table contains temperature, practical salinity, photosynthetically active radiation, profiler fluorescence recorded as RFU, and operational fluorescence-derived chlorophyll a. The validation workbook pairs profiler fluorescence and operational fluorescence-derived chlorophyll a with laboratory-extracted chlorophyll a and the available turbidity and CDOM measurements at the layer-composite scale. The validation observations are not depth-resolved measurements of individual 0.1-m profile bins and were not used to recalibrate individual depth-resolved values in the main profile dataset. Raw 1-s instrument time series and original cast files are not included. The deposit also contains documentation for both input files, a data dictionary and suggested citation metadata. The accompanying reproducible R workflow is available at: https://github.com/Mikhail-Golubkov/neva-chl-pipeline This version supersedes Version 1 and provides the complete data package used by the current analysis workflow.
