XCT_unwrapping
Abstract
Description This repository host the code used for XCT processing onboard the Chikyu drilling vessel during IODP 405. It provides the code supporting the manuscript "Real-time unwrapping of 3D X-ray CT scans for visual core description" submitted to Scientific Drilling (submission ID sd-2025-16). Contents X-ray CT scanning (XCT) is routinely conducted onboard the drilling vessel Chikyu for scientific expeditions. A rapid visualization method, developed during IODP Expedition 405, unwraps XCT images to enable early characterization of sediment heterogeneities and identification of geological structures at the visual core description stage. This folder provides 2 informations: a Python script (unwrapping_script.py) showing the unwrapping (unwrapped_64px.png) of a small except of Section 2 of Core 29K from Hole C0019J (folder 405C0019J029K02_cut also zipped as 405C0019J029K02_cut.zip) the original notebooks (with the original outputs and without the output for a faster loading) This are companion code for the manuscript "Real-time unwrapping of 3D X-ray CT scans for visual core description", submitted to Scientific Drilling (submission ID sd-2025-16).
