Resolution Levels and Structural Accessibility: A Structure-First Framework for Physical Interaction Without Dimensional Inflation
Abstract
Persistent conceptual tensions in physics often arise at regime boundaries, where otherwise successful theories appear to fragment or require interpretive extension. Common responses introduce additional dimensions, hidden variables, or new ontological entities to compensate for these limits. This paper proposes that many such difficulties stem instead from the absence of a clear classifier for resolution—the degree of structural accessibility available to an interaction or observer. Resolution is defined here as the subset of degrees of freedom that can be distinguished, addressed, and dynamically reconfigured within a given regime. It is shown to be distinct from scale, energy, dimensionality, and ontology. Treating resolution as primary allows physical behavior across gravity, mass, plasma, and field interactions to be unified without modifying existing laws or introducing new forces. Within this framework, physical reality organizes into structural bands of admissible accessibility. Theories remain valid within the bands for which their observables are accessible and fail only when applied outside those domains. Gravity is reframed as a resolution gradient that progressively restricts accessible future configurations, while mass emerges as partial resolution lock-in under constraint. Plasma occupies a complementary high-accessibility regime characterized by weak persistence and rapid reconfiguration. By separating structural accessibility from geometric description, this approach explains the recurrent appearance of dimensional inflation as a modeling response to resolution mismatch rather than as evidence of hidden geometry. Resolution-based classification preserves the empirical success of general relativity, quantum field theory, and thermodynamics while clarifying their domains of applicability. The result is not a new physical theory, but a structural reordering that resolves regime ambiguity and restores coherence across physical description.
